What a great find! Thanks for posting this. Oh and it's true, he did only throw his ribbons, and some other guy's medals.

Did you really think John Kerry's mother would let him throw his own medals away? In a war protest? Certainly NOT! Now he needs them to run for president. Proving, always listen to your mother!

Kerry soon assumed a leadership position in the rabid pro-communist VVAW organization.

From the Vietnam Veterans against John Kerry link:

After his third Purple Heart Kerry requested to be sent home. Navy rules, he pointed out, allowed a thrice-wounded soldier to return to the United States immediately. Commodore Charles F. Horne, an administrative official and commander of the coastal squadron in which Kerry served, filled out a document on March 17, 1969, that said Kerry had "been thrice wounded in action while on duty incountry Vietnam. Reassignment is requested ... as a personal aide in Boston, New York, or Wash., D.C. area. In April 1969, having engineered an early transfer out of the conflict because of his three minor wounds, John Kerry left his crew behind and returned home to a sweet assignment as an admiral's aide.

My father declined a Purple Heart for his shrapnel wounds in the Battle of the Bulge, despite the fact it would have meant 5 more points toward the end of his 2 year deployment. He felt the American dead were the heroes, and the Purple Heart was for those who suffered and sacrificed due to their wounds.

Also from the VVAJK link:

Kerry was a supporter of the "People's Peace Treaty," a supposed "people's" declaration to end the war, reportedly drawn up in communist East Germany.

It included nine points, all of which were taken from Viet Cong peace proposals at the Paris peace talks as conditions for ending the war.

One of the provisions stated: "The Vietnamese pledge that as soon as the U.S. government publicly sets a date for total withdrawal [from Vietnam], they will enter discussion to secure the release of all American prisoners, including pilots captured while bombing North Vietnam."

In other words, Kerry and his VVAW advocated the communist line to withdraw all U.S. troops from Vietnam first and then negotiate with Hanoi over the release of prisoners. Had the nine points of the "People's Peace Treaty" favored by Kerry been accepted by American negotiators, the United States would have totally lost all leverage to get the communists to release any POWs captured during the war years.
