Great sax player. His music will be missed. Rest in peace.

You were there, too? Nope. I wish. Saw him with the Dan in Chicago area in 1995? 1996?

Now that's a resume! RIP.

Bad news. He brought true musicianship to the Doobie Brothers.

I didn't know they were touring then. Wish I had seen it. I LOVE Steely Dan - I saw them a few years ago for the 2VN tour, and then last summer for EMG, both times at the Gorge, both times Cornelius was with them. This is so sad. (And thanks for the link.)

Great venue, the Gorge. Great band. I love SD too. They feature prominently on my personal home page (Throw out your gold teeth and see how they roll ...)
Links were easy to find using "Steely Dan Bumpus" on Google. Damn, he was a fine player, and seems to have been a genuinely decent person to boot.

Mrs. Beelzebubba and I heard him play with Steely Dan last year. His is a sound that (with all due respect to many other fine saxophonists who played with the band) made Steely Dan sound like Steely Dan.

Oddly, he does not play on the albums I know best, but in concert, his sound was perfect.

If I had to go to Merced......

. . . his sound was perfect . . . Steely Dan has a knack for picking just the right guys for their sound. Cornelius was no exception. Ouch. Hate to hear about this.
