The Janet Jackson Breast Across America Super Bowl Stunt -- trademark now pending -- is one of those great stories that encapsulates money, morality, spin, corporate bloat, entertainment banality and the age-old American conundrum of which is worse, sex or violence.

We are all -- this column included -- giving Janet Jackson exactly what she wants: billions in free publicity,

The moral America of old would have given her what she deserves; a boycott and a blacklist in the industry. She would never have worked another day outside of Las Vegas.

How or why it happened, however, is not the truly interesting question. This is: Didn't that nipple piercing hurt like hell?

That torpedoed his original comment about sex or violence. This was both (a mutilated nipple). A woman in her entourage bought that piece of metal in Houston by the way and indicated to the piercer that it would be for Janet Jackson. I recognized the guy who was interviewed (and he showed another sample) but I don't know him personally.

Never mind Jackson's blame-taking. The money people at Viacom don't give a damn about artistic mistakes.

If the weight of the blame should be placed on Ms. Jackson then she wouldn't be allowed on the CBS Grammy broadcast. Barring that, if everything else was kosher about Janet's duet with Justin, they should be made to repeat the performance on the Grammys to show that it really was an innocent dance with a little wardrobe malfunction.

Maybe this will serve as a lesson to Viacom and other giant media conglomerates: Be careful who you swallow. That MTV got to produce the halftime show for sister network CBS was, on paper, perfect synergy. Let's not forget that other Viacom companies were busy making Super Bowl themed shows, too -- even Nickelodeon. Imagine if one of the "Rugrats" had dropped an f-bomb or something. It would have reverberated back up the corporate ladder. This is dangerous stuff, this media monopoly game. It can bite you in the backside if everybody's not on the same page.

LOL Even Spongebob isn't safe!

What would be funny would be for the NFL to say that next year CBS will be forbidden from broadcasting any NFL game.. But such real measures won't be taken.

Honestly, I'm annoyed that EMI will be making big bucks off of this, that Janet will enjoy a resurgence in her career, and that some poor smuck will lose his/her job over the whole thing. Outside the United States, most people are wondering where to get that pretty pin that Janet was wearing. What would be just deserts would be Texas prosecuting Janet for indecent exposure x 100,000.

Our goal with the Super Bowl halftime show was to produce an entertaining stage experience with a positive message about empowerment and voting. We are disappointed that this message has been overshadowed by the unfortunate incident. MTV apologizes again to anyone who was offended."

I wonder what there is about crotch grabbing, flag wearing and grinding have to do with "empowerment" and "voting". Am I just not with it or what?

No publicity from me. I went out to smoke a cigar at halftime, watched the game only, and enjoyed it very much.

This proves once again how most Americans are simply sheep following illusions and gimmicks. Pure sheep.
