Times New Roman is what I use, too. 12 point, not 14. I actually prefer Garamond for readability but it's not as condensed.

Harry Potter is published in Garamond. I did a college yearbook thiry years ago in Garamond. I do believe it's the easiest to read. I think of it as fat Roman.

I use Garamond also. But if you like the look of Garamond but need a more condensed font, use Garamond Book Condensed. It is available from Adobe.
I use both Garamond and Garamond Book Condensed. Both are highly readable.
