It's not unexpected. It's typical during the primaries that the opposition frontrunner gets a chance to shine. It's happened all the time in the past. McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Dole--all of them started to run ahead or dead even with the incumbent president for a while, but all of them soon lagged behind as the election progressed. Fortunately, I perceive that Kerry possesses many of the traits of all these presidential losers.
