A 7-year-old boy is dead and his mother is injured after they were hit by an SUV in Fort Lauderdale.
The woman and child were struck by a 1994 Ford Explorer (pictured) as they were crossing the street along 35th Avenue and Davie Boulevard on Sunday morning.
Witnessess say the impact of the crash knocked the boy roughly 20 feet. He died at Broward General Medical Center.
The boy's mother suffered facial and head injuries, which don't appear to be life-threatening.

Sad story. If it had been a car instead of an SUV, it surely wouldn't have happened.

How sad!
Do they know who was driving the automobile? Because that's who "hit" the child and his mother.

(Why are we even having this debate?)
To: ambrose
One can only hope that Democrats aren't successful in their current campaign have all SUVs join their party.
Republicans would sitting ducks for these evil doers.
To: GeronL
I noticed that too. SUVs are on a rampage. Someone needs to stop 'em.
To: Texas_Jarhead

Did this suv have a driver?
To: Bogey78O
I've been watching this gun for years.
It hasn't moved once.
I suspect it's lulling me into a false sense of security:
http://www.roughwheelers.com/montego/gun_cam.html I've even considered setting up a 24/7 webcam for my 4Runner....just....in....case.

If it had been a car, they might have survived. Cars are designed so that people who get hit are thrown up on the hood. SUVs don't do that, so you have more injuries to the upper body, which in turn are often more severe.

I just checked on my Durango...she doesn't appear to have moved from where I parked her last night. But I guess you never know for sure. I must have gotten a well behaved SUV instead of one of these "renegade killers". Boy, am I relieved. </ sarcasm>
To: mewzilla
Good grief... If it had been a bike or a pedestrian, they not only would have survived, they probably wouldn't have even sustained any injuries, mmmmkkayyy?
So what do you propose, outlawing cars? Your silly thought process supports this. How about bikes, since they may cause more harm then pedestrians?
The problem with you folks is you spend too much time trying to manage the individual "ifs" in life and fail to recognize that life is full of accidents and tragedies. As a concesquence, you can't see see beyond the immediate issue with which you concern yourself.
If the driver hadn't been born.. If the pedestrian had been forced to wear neon orange by the guvmint... if Mewzilla had only joined the Enviro-Nazis and set the evil SUV on fire the night before. If if if.. Get a life.
