[history]
As President Reagan's birthday fast approaches, those who worked for him and others who cherish his contributions should redouble their efforts to preserve his legacy.
Don't expect the academic community and professional writers to do that for us. University departments most likely to write the history of this era and to interpret Mr. Reagan's contributions tilt to the left. Respected writers, including Edmund Morris, are so jaded by enigmatic, Machiavellian figures they have difficulty understanding and appreciating a man who said what he meant and meant what he said.

Well if you read the psost here Reagn was not all that hot!
Do a search on any of the threads discussing disapointment of W's current admin and you'll find many posts by some well establihsed freepers indicating that Reagn was a moderate!
Reagn was a conservative!
His pardon of immigrants while wrong was PRE 9/11 at a time we did not need to defend our borders from being crossed by terrorists.

How did the Reagan people commission Edmund Morris to write Ron's bio?
That was a big mistake. I just can't understand it.
To: My Dog Likes Me
Yes. Both Ron and Nancy admired Morris's "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" and thought it had the epic historical sweep they hoped Morris would bring to the Reagan biography. They gave him virtually unlimited access to Reagan's papers and allowed him to sit in on White House meetings.
I do not think that Morris's "Dutch" is as bad as most others do, but clearly, he did not make maximum use of his access to the Gipper and his personal papers as he might have.
