Janet Apologizes, Says Super Bowl Stunt Went Too Far

One day after Janet Jackson's shocking Super Bowl halftime performance, the singer took responsibility for the breast-baring incident and said she never intended the stunt to go as far as it did.

"The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals," Jackson said in a statement released Monday (February 2). "MTV was completely unaware of it. It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended — including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL."

Jackson's performance shocked onlookers when Justin Timberlake — who was performing with her — pulled off a piece of Jackson's costume, revealing her right breast.

MTV, which produced the halftime show for CBS, issued an apology shortly after the show, calling the incident "unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and ... inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance" (see "Janet, Justin, MTV Apologize For Super Bowl Flash").

Timberlake also apologized on Sunday, calling the incident "not intentional and regrettable."

On Sunday, Jackson's reps told MTV News that the singer apologized for the move, but the singer issued no public statement on the incident until Monday.

Heard by a reporter on the scene: "Oh, the huge mammary!"

Maybe, but only until it gets appealed by the ACLU.

Well, other than the costume reveille and the wardrobe malfunction it was a hell of a high class show, wasn't it?! Giuseppe Verdi might of scripted it, or Richard Wagner, no?

So she waits until Minday to make a statement? Musta been waiting to see what the reactions were.

Talentless tart.

Next time just let the drum corps do it's stuff and leave the oddballs at home.

You could see the continuing slide of the NFL beginning this year with each progressive week's airing of Monday Night Football.

Hank Williams was sharing the opening song Are You Ready For Some Football? with the likes of Snoop Dog, Spears, Diddy and all the other no-talent bums that make up today's pop culture......it got to a point where Williams portion was reduced to 6 words.....

No doubt. I can't believe the amount of hype this has caused. I mean, I guess it's not good, but really who cares? Oh, there is some 40 year old lady's nipple. Is it really all that shocking? I don't have kids, but there are a bunch of other perfectly 'normal' stuff on TV I'd be much more interested in steering them away from.

Don't believe anything Janet is saying... it is all part of an elaborate booby trap.

The media is just frothing at the mouth at this one - you know it's gotten weird when they are asking opinions on it from Tom Brady, who just won MVP and a Super Bowl ring, and W, who has a little more on his mind (crazy terrorists, crazy dems)than Janet Jackson's nipple jewelry!

No, I don't disagree.

I wouldn't classify a guy as a moron who enjoys seeing women's breasts. Nor would i classify a girl as a moron who enjoyed seeing male body parts. That's the way we humans are.

And you're probably right. Guys who are fathers probably didn't find it appropriate for their kids to watch it.

23-year olds at Super Bowl parties probably weren't thinking of that. i know the guy i was watching it with wasn't.

You know, a Class Action lawsuit against Jackson, MTV and all involved just might tone this junk down a little bit. I think that every parent whose child watched this should be compensated.

[Tagliabue] had to know who was producing and who was performing, though; what did he expect?.........

As Rush is saying: "A tiger is a tiger!" Also, Tagliabue should know that "MTV is MTV" with all its garbage and rappers who always are infected by crab-louses in their pants when they appear on stage!

I was thinking exactly the same thing! These Hollywood/Pop lib weirdos need a serious spanking in their wallets. Libs love the trial lawyers who help the victims of the powerful, right?
