California legislators begin each year's session with a fairly comprehensive understanding of what they're supposed to accomplish, and they certainly don't lack the resources of time and staff assistance to do their jobs. Indeed, it's interesting to note that despite the state's huge budget deficits and the certainty of severe cutbacks in state and local services, the Legislature is planning about a $10 million boost in spending on itself.

Maybe it's time a buncha us grassroots FReepers hada big git togather on the Crapitol lawn like a "teach in" demonstration to bring a little attention to the "Lethargic Legislature" and teach the media that we need to return to a PART-TIME LEGISLATURE!!!
Obviously, we need to also roll back the huge salaries and pensions along with the size of budgets!!!
Anybody wanna start a sign-up sheet? Heck, we did it with Smog Check II and MTBE, yellin "Can You Hear Us NOW?"
Somebody get on the horn to Melanie Morgan! She's got one heck of a BULL-HORN on KSFO!!! Mark Williams on KFBK would love it!!! The time may be ripe for some "ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!!!"
Burton is out to prove who wears the pants in Sacramento. So far, he's winning because Arnold hasn't shown the leadership his supporters expected.
The Democrats hope that pressures from groups affected by the proposed budget cuts will change Schwarzenegger's mind, while the governor believes that he has popular support on his side.
Let's change the tax system, shall we? How about you, Johnny Dumbass pay ALL of the benefits deemed necessary to support Suzy Lazyass and her kids (whose last names are anyone's guess). And you, Billy Ballpark pay to cover the cost of Joey Jerk*ff's disability claim (whose friends would say his back is just fine). Would this get the attention of the taxpayer!!? You bet.
As it stands (the tax system- that is) nickle-and-diming everyone results in no accountablility and the resultant 'could-give-a-damn' attitude amongst taxpayers.
Real taxes hurt and don't grow large as result. Let's be honest with taxpayers and start hurting a few. We could even supply them with the pictures of those they are supporting directly, wouldn't that be nice for a change?
