This could very well be true.

Peopel forget that the largest German Offensive in Western Europe wasnt 1940, but a desperate attempt to win the war in 1944. The ythrew more men, tanks and even planes at the allies in Dec 1944, then in may 1940. Six months later, they are totally defeated. Ditto Kamikazies, the Japanese didnt use them at Pearl Harbour, Singapore and Hong Kong, they used them when they were losing.

Well, time will tell. The worst case for Bush would be the evolution of this into a civil war between the different ethnic groups. Were this not an election year, I would say, let them go at it. We could then supply/reinforce the guys we want to win. IMHO we simply didn't kill enough people in the Sunni Triangle last year.
