MTV Touted Jackson 'Shocker' Before Topless Super Bowl Dance

CBS is claiming it had no idea that a Super Bowl half-time dance routine between Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake would feature the pop diva going partially topless.

But four days before Ms. Jackson assaulted tens of millions TV viewers during the family hour with her R-rated moment, a press release by the company producing the show boasted that her dance would be "shocking."

"I don't think the Super Bowl has ever seen a performance like this," Jackson choreographer Gil Duldulao said, in a press release posted to MTV's web site on Jan. 28.

"The dancing is great. She's more stylized, she's more feminine, she's more a woman as she dances this time around. There are some shocking moments in there too."

CBS and NFL switchboards were flooded with complaints as millions of families gathered to watch what was supposed to be a wholesome family-oriented TV sports event.

But instead, a song laced with Timberlake's allusions to getting Jackson naked ended with him ripping off part of her top, exposing Jackson's tassled breast.

A statement issued by the NFL said it was unlikely that MTV would ever be allowed to produce another Super Bowl half-time show.

But despite the music network's boast that the "shocking" routine would show Jackson as "more of a woman as she dances around," CBS is calling her nudity "unexpected."

The apple never falls far from the tree, and there are a lot of rotten apples in the Jackson family. That halftime show was the worst display I've ever seen for a major sporting event.

Not only did Jackson show what a trashy tramp she truly is, but the excessively hip-hop oriented "music" also dragged down the quality of this one. I'm not quite sure what the NFL was thinking with it either. Rap and "hip hop" music has a VERY narrowly defined clientele of listeners who love it. Most are either fellow ghetto "gangstas" of the rap artists themselves or greasy punkish high school underclassmen who are in that phase between the N'Sync teeny bop and the "powder punk" wannabe rockers like Sum 41 and Blink 182. The remainder are that very small but vocal class of artsy types who, for some unfathomable reason, are of the belief that angrily shouting semi-coherent profanities into a microphone to the rhythm of wholly meritless and ammateur rhythmic arrangements contains some sort of aesthetic quality. I cannot believe that the sum of these three groups would make up anything more than one quarter of the U.S. population and even less of the superbowl viewers. Among the remaining three quarters it is not only generally true that they find rap and hip-hop "music" unappealling. Most of this majority cannot stand it. Which leads back to the question: why on earth would the NFL invite "performers" to play "music" that they know is generally detested by over three fourths of the people watching the game?

I really didn't think it was a very nice ta-ta. This sailor has seen lots of bodacious ta-ta's and I would rate hers about a 4 on a scale of 1-10!

Haa ha. Ho ho. It's Michael who wants to look like his sisters, Janet and LaToya, not the other way around. And I think that IS her natural size (since you just want to critisize, I'll remind you: Janet used to be ..er.. plump (fat)). And her breasts were big then too). Janet is fine, period. And no I don't approve of the Superbowl stunt.

Please. CBS and MTV are the same company... The evil Viacom.

<< [Ms Jackson] is about par with the farting horse. >>

How dare you compare a member of the Jackson family with hot air delivered via a horses arse?

Wrong on a few things. The biggest consumers of rap/hip-hop are white teenagers. They also make the lion's share of music consumers (blowing $15-a-pop for a CD of their parents' hard earned money). So, no, rap is not narrowly listened to.

I am SO happy, I skipped the Superbowl after hearing all the toilet humor that happened during it.

By the way, who ever chose that outfit for Janet Jackson (barring the exposed breast) ripped it off from Farscape, Peacekeeper (Barbie) Niem from Season 1 Episodes 'Nerve' and 'The Hidden Memory' to be exact.

The bar has been lowered again.

Lowered? They already need a core drill to get anywhere near the bar.

Janet Jackson's Super Bowl Show Promises 'Shocking Moments' There's the proof.

According to entertainment reporter Pat O'Brien, Timberlake told him he did it to "give people something to talk about." How quickly his story changed to a "wardrobe malfunction"! What was the malfunction -- that he meant to expose both breasts?

If CBS had REALLY wanted some attention, they might have equipped young Mr. Timberlake with a small electric cattle prod. That would REALLY have left a shocked look on Janet Jackson's face....

Women don't usually wear pasties just in case just in case somebody yanks their top off.

I'd think most women who were planning on having their tops pulled off would make a point of not wearing pasties....

Better yet, write to Howard Dean, and tell him that it's because of Justin and Janet that noone's paying any attention to him any more. That ought to do it.

I suspect a multi-million dollar fine would go a long way towards *ensuring* that MTV would never produce another NFL halftime show.

The NFL has already said they will not allow MTV to produce another halftime show.

Well, I guess you are not too versed on the Muslim religion! I am, having spent time in Israel, Kuwait and Oman. I can assure you Bin Laden and company will be whipping the Arab masses into a frenzy over this public breast exposure. The message will be these Americans are all infidels, have no respect for Allah or God and must all be killed. Now do you really think a service guy would trade a glimpse of breast for a bullet in the head. You must be a Democrat to be so uninformed!

I'd like to hear from the wizened and experienced commentator Walter Cronkite.

We kept seeing promos during the Super Bowl touting CBS as the most watched network.

That's not saying much. They're the most watched network in an audience that has shrunk by 40% in the past ten years. The major networks are alarmed by the drastic dropoff of male viewers between the ages of 18 and 30, thereby the MTV and the breast at the premier sporting event.
