Wow - there's even more to this I can tell - before Cooper escaped to California, he was being held in a Pennsylvania State Mental Institution whose property butted right up against my property in the early 80's. While this facility had a forensics unit in which Cooper was kept (for the criminally insane - and I don't know why he was originally placed there) some idiotic psychiatrist gave this Psycho a Ground Pass for "good behavior" (he could take a bus into town, do a little shopping, and then have to return to the facility). The creep immediately went AWOL and broke into one of my neighbor's home, brutally raped and beat their 18 year old daughter (my little sister was best friends with her little sister) and then hitchhiked to CA where he slaughtered that family.

Why he was a forensics patient and let out on a ground pass never quite got answered - instead of hanging the shrink who authorized it, they proposed to put up a fence around the facility (which never did happen).

...Sitting next to me today in my Prayer Gorup was a Teacher who taught the lone survivior of the 1983 Chino Hills Massacre in his teen years. She is also friends with the family that lost their child that was visiting the RYAN's home one infamous day.
