Excuse me, but we are talking about the systematic changing of a culture without the consent of the citizens. How about this analogy - we invaded Iraq as a preventative measure from future terrorism. I am ok with that premise since not taking that action sends the message that terrorizing the U.S. is ok or will at least be tolerated. The ILLEGAL ALIEN question is very similiar. By not enforcing the law, by granting illegal citizens driver's licenses, by granting them reduced tuition and medical benefits, we are sending the message that is is ok to break the law and that law breaking will be tolerated and excused. Many of us find that unaceptable. Also, I suggest you read the Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbons. You will see that one of the key reasons the Roman Empire collapsed was due to foreign invaders (Goths, Visigoths, Barbarians) and the corruption of politicians. Many of us see parallels to the reasons Rome fell and don't want to repeat the same mistakes.

No need to suggest books to me.

I stand by my statement that this is being overblown. You guys don't seem to be able to think about one other thing.

This is a proposal. A starting point. It will go through many changes before it could ever become law.

Time and time again President Bush shows himself to be several steps ahead of his critics.

Therefore, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Regardless of how this turns out, President Bush has shown himself to be an excellent leader.

I will be voting for George W. Bush.
