how do you set up a ping list

I'm not exactly sure. I know that when you compose a message under "My Mail" you're allowed to list multiple recipients. As to where the names of those multiple recipients are kept, I don't know. Maybe on a separate Excel or Word document to be cut and pasted? Can someone help me out on this?

To set up a ping list, you:

1. Find the folks passionate about each subject.
2. Ask them if they want to be added to your ping list (you should most likely do this via FReepmail)
3. Set up a text file on your computer labeled something like "ping list".
4. begin typing in the names of the folks you are going to ping to the threads, like this: dware; Jaysun; votelife" (this short list would ping the three of us to a thread). Make sure the names are separated by semi-colons.
5. When you find an article of interest to your issue, open your ping list file, copy the contents of your ping list and paste them into the "To:" box while posting a reply to the thread.
6. You'll want a name for your list, so that anyone you ping to any particular thread will know why. If you are building an anti-abortion ping list, you could name it something like THE ANTI-ABORTION PING LIST or something a little more creative.
7. When you "PING" your list members to a thread, your post should be something along the lines of:

ANTI-ABORTION PING LIST - let me know if you want on or off this list.

or something similar.

Keep in mind that ping lists are for notifying people who are interested in any given subject that there is a new article posted here on FR that they may find useful. Don't get upset because someone doesn't want to be on your ping list. It happens.

Whatever you do, don't EVER add someone to a ping list unless they agree.
