A poll from the Minnecrapolis Red Star would have Pol Pot with higher numbers than President Bush. These people are the scum of the earth and I pray that in the future they have their day of reckoning..

I believe the base will come out for Bush - if nothing else to vote against the democrat nominee. The alternative is too horrific to consider. I've never been 100% in agreement with all of his policies but I'll still vote for the man. Plus I think all of this appearance of pandering to the left will disappear once the election is won - Bush will return full force to his conservative base. Don't forget - these proposed policies have to go before Congress - don't think Bush & Rove don't realize that. Be patient.

I have one more thought hanging around in my head. Our enemies will be watching this election closely. Think they'll be overjoyed to see Bush win? Think they would not give the liberal demo nominee a little help? I would not be surprised (tho God forbid)if we do not have another 9/11 type attack shortly before the election. That could really give the demo nominee some ammunition...national security, Bush failed, etc.

15 billion dollars for AIDS in Africa is a very worthy cause. It is a justified expenditure. I would actually prefer our UN dues to go African under our auspices than any more under the UN.

We've debated the amnesty bill. Obviously, you seem to have the same problem with the truth that Bill Clinton has.

Was the education bill perfect? No. Did it include the vouchers we wanted? No. However, it curtailed the practice of federal money being spent to no purpose. Would I like to see federal government out of education? Yes. But even Ronald Reagan never attempted such a move.

One thing I don't get is the cuts in veteran $$. Kerry is using this big-time against Bush. Since W is throwing money around to silence the Dems on issues, why doesn't he do it in this regard? I don't have the numbers but I would guess the amount isn't any more than the NEA budget increase. Does anyone have an answer for that, I've been having this issue used against Bush in my discussions with lib acqauintances.

The Department of Veterans Affairs will receive a record budget of $64 billion for the current fiscal year, up $4.2 billion from the previous spending level.

"I'm grateful for President Bush's leadership in ensuring that VA can honor our nation's commitment to its veterans," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi. "I'm also appreciative of the support Congress has shown when it comes to taking care of veterans."

The budget for fiscal year 2004, which began Oct. 1 comes as VA is putting the finishing touches on the administration's proposed budget for fiscal year 2005, which will be formally unveiled Monday.

Among the major items in fiscal year 2004 budget are $28.4 billion for health care, up $2.9 billion from the previous year, and $32.8 billion in benefits programs. Other budgetary categories include:

* $143.4 million for the National Cemetery Administra-tion, an $11 million hike over last year, plus nearly $32 million in grants for state cemeteries;

* Full funding to expedite the handling of veterans' claims for disability compensation and pensions -- a total of $1 billion for all programs;

* Nearly $176 million for health care and other programs to assist homeless veterans, an increase of over $22 million from fiscal year 2003;

* $101 million to support state extended-care facilities, $3 million more than last year; and

* $522 million for construction, plus the authority to transfer another $400 million to health care construction.

"This budget will ensure the VA is able to meet the needs of the latest generation of combat vets who are now returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan, while continuing to care for those from earlier conflicts," Principi said.
