Mud,I can't help but think this was the plan all along. Force some issues, make people work .Now,I know for some he's not "right" enough, but, thus far, he is surely keeping the bad guys out,and that's right enough for me.

I wanted to return to these points separately.

A fixation on personality (our current president) is the most certain way to lose our real battle for conservative and constitutional principle over the long run.

When Reagan left office, Bush 41 was a disappointment. We tried to morph him into something he was not. So after a term, he had to be discarded by conservatives. This lead to Clinton (bad, bad, bad) but in turn led gun rights activists and conservatives to elect the Gingrich congress in '94 (good, good, good).

Fast-forward past a few stained dresses and an impeachment and the Dims are left with the same problem we had with Reagan: they are focused on Clintonism, the personality and a longing for that era where they felt more powerful.

And Bush 43 is somewhat the same thing. There's a true personality cult here at FR devoted to him. And when he's gone, their emotional investment cannot be fulfilled by someone else. So they will become politically ineffective, having marched off into a wilderness over personality.

Remaining focused on principle is the key. Ignoring words and evaluating actions, not party affiliation or personality is the method.

So it is principle that counts and that will win or lose for us. Any temporary gains we may get from an obsessive focus on a particular personality contains the seed of our own later defeats.

Watch the money and the votes, not the words. Focus on principle, not personality.

For conservatives and constitutionalists to win, this must be our strategy.

Like it or not, Bush 43 will someday be gone. On that day, if we don't have principles and still have the will to fight, we'll have nothing and will be easy meat for the mindless Lefties.

GWB, I know this, all too well. I also don't indulge in personality cults, that's for the Keyesians and Brigadiers, not to mention unrepentant Clintonistas. I think that your points are good, as usual. We just disagree, mildly, on how they are going to impact.

But to say it's all personality does a disservice to the both of us. Outside that, how about that game? Disappointed in the final but what a cliff hanger.
