In Floriduh in 2000, Pat and Bay Buchanan were trying to argue that their 300 or so votes from a county actually should be counted for Gore. They failed. (I was so glad I had jumped ship before drinking the koolaid!)
Had they succeeded, we would have been fighting the re-election of a Prez Gore and we'd be the ones saying 'selected not elected'.
New Mexico, another state that could have tipped the outcome was within about 400 votes in the final tally as I recall.
I guess I thought that we had settled the issue of whether every vote counts back in 2000.

You nailed it. Most of the LP supporters are dopers and I've run into a few of them on FR. They seem to have come out of the closet lately.

Giving the Republicans a landslide sends the message that the people reject the Democrats and their Marxist socialism/liberalism. We want to end the tyranny of the liberal activist judiciary. We want an end to the liberal obstructionism. If you allow the Democrats to regain power, you are sending the message that we want more liberalism rather than less, more of the homosexual agenda rather than less, more abortion rather than less, more immigration rather than less, more wealth redistribution rather than less, more restrictions on religious freedom, more gun-control, more environmentalism, more government, higher taxes, weaker national defense, more dependence on the UN, world courts, world government, etc, etc, etc.

Correct. The dedicated third-partyists have so marginalized themselves that they very rarely impact elections.
There have been a few Electoral College votes allotted to a 3rd party candidate in the last 100 years or so, but nothing near enough to impact the outcome of the election....
The largest number I believe was Strom Thurmond in 1948 with 39 as a State's Right party candidate with 2.4% of the vote...
In 1924 the Progressive party got 13 EC votes with 16.6% of the vote....
President Reagan got one EC vote in 1976 and Harry Byrd got 13 EC Votes in 1960....
So you are correct in that they don't impact the outcome nearly as much as they would like people to think they do....

Bush & the Republicans will get my vote only if they need it in close races in my state.Another good citizen whose 'conscience' is dictated by how close the race is.
You don't see a problem with this 'ethic?'

I think the primary reason that GHWB lost was his inept campaign and lack of enthusiasm. I can't provide you a link to any sources now and I'm not going looking for them but studies have shown that Perot took about as many voters from the Democrats as Republicans..... The problem with that is how to determine if those that actually voted in 1992 would have came out and voted if Perot wasn't in the race and how they would have voted.
President Bush's Campaign conducted a very poor campaign I believe.... Remember his sock buying photo op. and he didn't even know about the price scanner.... He was so isolated from day to day reality, imo. He is an was a good person but he just didn't seem to have the fire and gusto to win.
Your opinion may differ....

But go ahead and vote LP, cause Bush to lose by a hair, and then let a Democrat nominate up to four Supreme Court judges who will serve for the next 30 years. If the Party of Clinton gets to pick the SC Judges .. the LP can kiss their dope good-bye .. along with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights
Come to think of it .. When Clinton was first elected, didn't he fire all a lot of folks in the justice department and replace them with his people?

I agree with you in that it was GHB's fault ALONE for having lost the election to WJC.
It will be no different in November.

Pretty much SOP for any President to replace all the political appointees including the Federal Attorneys in each district/region.....

And I think he understands that.... IMO, he's not the dunce many would like to portray him as. My observations over time has been he is pretty open about what he is going to do, tells you and proceeds head long at it... He works to build coalitions, believes in trying to bring as many ppl into the mix as possible, sets the objectives, hires the proper ppl and then lets them have at it.

Okay. Thanks. I kept trying to sign up but my firewall was blocking third-party websites and such.
I'm starting to hate anti-virus and firewall software. There's always something I have to tweak.
