No, Laz....it DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE KILLED!!!
Whoops, I was shouting and Brad's in bed.
Anyone good and decent cares about each person killed by whomever. Evil's evil.

I believe that at the root, freedom means a society that protects the rights of man to own property and does not interfere with his commerce with others. That is the basic principle upon which our country was founded. From there, I would say is that a free society is one in which man is not compelled to pay taxes to the government. Users of goods and services would pay for them.

So the answer for you is to join with the socialists and get the real thing elected? I already told you I am not going to vote for Bush. Oh, you mean the other socialist? No, I won't vote for them either.

No, I prefer to think I picked up Ron Paul. I love old Ron but it is the love you hold for the crazy uncle in the attic. Ron cant even win a statewide senate race much less the presidency.

Again .. you're all heart My heart bleeds for the victims of the WTC. I was particularly wrenched by the picture, that when you enhanced it, shows a woman holding a baby outside so it didn't need to breath smoke.
But when all the tears are cried and the grieving hearts calm a little, it's time to look at various effects objectively.

I think that more damage will be done to our way of life by rampant spending -- e.g., turning us into a socialist European-style country -- and by overturning the Bill of Rights by Executive and Congressional fiat than by terrorism. It is verboten to speak of such things, Comrade.
Tell us... when did you first begin to doubt the Manifest Destiny of our Glorious Leader? Speak freely, and it will go easy on you. (We may even permit you to keep your .22, provided its magazine is government-approved...)

Wow, what you added to the conversation was trully remarkable. You go ahead and keep your head down and keep pluging along. I'm sure it will all work out.

Jim, my deepest thanks for a supreme post.
I'm an historian. When I want to know about an era, I read the newspapers. I read them every day. I see the arguments, the news, the fervor, and the expectations. It's the oddest experience, for I know what will happen next, and they haven't a clue. I've been focussing this week on the Summer of 1929. Poor bastards, a few had some idea that what was wouldn't long be, but most just thought it'd ever be more of the same. (We could review the newspapers of 2000 for the same.)
Doing this I've learned that the longest tense is the present tense. What is today seems so much larger than it rarely is. Some events, some issues are bigger than the here and the now, but, by far, most are not. What happens next November means far, far more than the NEA, or whatever pisses us off tomorrow.
In your post you've seen beyond the here and the now. Awesome.

many of us in my camp find it equally baffling that so many self-described "conservatives" can look past Bush's faults.
Probably because those 'self-described conservatives' aren't 'true' or 'real' conservatives..... You see most conservatives outside of the 'real/true conservative' can live with reality that it's either going to be President Bush reelected or the Democrat Nominee elected.... one of the other.... no 3rd party will even be in the hunt just as they haven't been even when Perot took some 19% of the vote in 1992 and Zero Electoral College votes...
Heck a 'real conservative' in the name of Ron Paul ran on the LP ticket back in 1984 was it and didn't even smell up the place then came back to the Republican party to run for his old congressional seat.... Even he understands you have to be in one or the other of the two major parties to be effective and in most cases to even be elected......

No, Laz....it DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE KILLED!!!Then you and I will have to agree to differ that, for example, Adolph Hitler was worse and had more negative societal impact then Jeffery Dahmer.

His silence concerning white farmers in Zimbabwe? $15 billion dollars to Africa to fight AIDS? Come on....Why do you care about the farmers, but not about the AIDS? I have my suspicions, but you tell me why.

Sure, why not? If there are no social services for people to mooch on, I don't see why this would be a problem.
