Schools are too easy..my kid goes for 3 AP course at H.S. and then takes 2 college courses, and he isn't challenged at all..and he scored only 1300 on SAT...
H.S. is becoming more and a social setting/baby sitter...

I will say that academically, my kids public school is much harder than what I grew up with.

My fourth grader is writing essays. They've started teaching basic algebra.

My first graders are reading chapter books, and they know how to write paragraphs. Every week they have to write sentences with their spelling words. The sentences have to be at least 6 words long.

I read Dick and Jane books in 1st grade. That's what my daughters read in kindegarten.
