[history]
The lawyer who sued Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger over his $4.5 million campaign loans charged Wednesday that Schwarzenegger lied when he told reporters he had always intended to repay the loan out of his own pocket.
Lowell Finley, who had access to Schwarzenegger's loan documents through discovery in the case, challenged Schwarzenegger to "come clean" by authorizing his bank to release loan papers so the public could see how he planned to pay off the debt.

This from the same Democrats who snooze over government deficits in Sacramento. Its too funny to comment on the incredible hypocrisy here - the Governor is going to square his own debt and here we being lectured to on fiscal probity by the same people who messed up this state.

Here's this man, Ah-nold trying to step in and help California get a grip on their problems, and all the Dim-ocrats can do is try to hassle him! Dimocrats can't set partisanship aside and pitch in for the good of California--oh, no! Dimocrats have to continually hassle the man who is trying to solve the problems that the Dimocrats themselves created!!

He wouldn't be squaring his own debt if he hadn't been busted for his shenanigans. He tried to skirt the intent of the law (which would hide from the public who his contributors were). When caught, he applauded the ruling. He is not exactly the pillar of honesty here.

When caught, he applauded the ruling. He is not exactly the pillar of honesty here. Of course you are right. But what I find much more interesting is the extremely smart political move Arnold made. When the ruling came down against him, he decided to praise it instead of appealing it. He correctly judged that he'd lose in the end anyway, so he might as well avoid the negative political fallout from opposing it and dragging it out.
That's what Lowell Finley is really pissed off about. Finley did all the work of filing a lawsuit and getting an initial decision in his favor, in order to damage Schwarzenegger politically. And just when victory was in his grasp (including lots of personal publicity for being the David to Arnold's Goliath), Schwarzenegger pulled the rug out from under him.
Finley can bitch all he wants, but Arnold's instant decision to personally repay the money has taken all the sting out of the issue. It will quickly fade away, with no serious harm done. Finley will never get his 15 minutes of fame, nor will he become a heroic icon to Democrats.

Politics in California has gotten to the point that I'd be uncomfortable with a politician who didn't lie.
