[history]
House Democrats yesterday proposed granting legal residency and the eventual option of U.S. citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants now working in the United States.
Laying out their own principles for revamping the nation's immigration laws in response to what House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called President Bush's "political ploy," Democrats went beyond Mr. Bush's plan for a temporary-worker program and called for a system of "earned legalization" for illegal aliens.

Yeah, they want to offer citizenship to Mork from Ork and Alf. They'll let anyone in just to get another vote.

Bush's proposal may have been a pre-emptive strike, to get out in front of the dems.

The rats see it this way:
Millions more voters addicted to welfare transfer payments and block grants! They'll never vote for someone who would take it away from them.
The Rats buy votes with OUR TAX DOLLARS. What a freaking scam.

Mrs. Pelosi said Mr. Bush's recently proposed plan doesn't create a meaningful way for illegal aliens to become U.S. residents or citizens; doesn't reduce the backlog of U.S. citizens' petitions on behalf of relatives who are here illegally; and doesn't help tens of thousands of teenage illegals attend college here and eventually be granted legal status. In addition to proposing measures to address those concerns, Democrats endorsed a temporary-worker program that would give foreigners the option to stay in the United States and eventually earn permanent legal status here. For all those looking for an alternative, here it is!!!!!

Sheesh, this Rep. Pres. does more of the Democrats' work for them than he does conservatives' work.
COULD SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO GW THAT HE HAS VETO POWER AND IT MIGHT DO THIS COUNTRY SOME GOOD IF HE WOULD GET UP THE COURAGE TO USE IT!!
GW: "I'll sign whatever they bring me."

Well, when you see Bush's plan side-by-side with the Democrats, it doesn't look so bad after all ...

For all those looking for an alternative, here it is!!!!! Yeah. What should be, "How many can we deport and how fast can we deport 'em?", has morphed into, "How many can stay and how many more can we invite?" And conservatives retreat again.
To: dagnabbit
Will Jorge now try to one-up the Rats? Instant citizenship? Free car? lol....I doubt it. The issue will probably die now (after the House shoots it down) and we'll go back to the status quo, which is about as bad as anything else.

My thoughts exactly. Too many Republicans seem to think if Bush ignored this problem the Democrats would have no input or desire to curry favor with Hispanic voters. Bush's goals are humane and mutually beneficial. The Democrats are shopping for generational control of the government. Dump Bush; get Democrat control. You be the judge of the wisdom of that.
