Of course, let's not forget this little gem from the other day:

Ben Chandler: Wesley Clark best represents the values and culture of southern states

This race is much closer than the 10% survey. Kerr has been gaining steadily. Among the "strongly support" voters, it is neck-and-neck. The key will be turnout, which will be very light. Whoever turns out their base will take this one - it's that tight.

Kerr is not "taking the battle" to Chandler (Chandler exploits veterans, airs false ads), 'RATs don't fight in a gentle manner..."she must prove, she has the mettle to work in Congress"...Chandler will be one of "Barney Frank's friends", expected to follow the liberal vision, "Shrillary's The NEW Improved Kinder Amerika" like Orwell's 1984 or Animal Farm's Napoleon.

Chandler's entire lead is from higher name recognition, which will not be an advantage by election day as Kerr continues a full media campaign. Chandler's name ID will likely become a disadvantage when the NRCC starts to get tough with its own adverts.

A special election is essentially a contest in getting out your base vote, since overall turnout will be quite low. I'm not sure how valid traditional polling is...but even so, that poll doesn't reflect all that great on Chandler. His name ID is enormously higher than Kerr's as he had a full campaign for governor and she did not.

In today's paper from a Republican state senator who is supporting Kerr and has just opted into the race for the fall election. We're fooling ourselves about the trend in this race. Kerr has run a real awful campaign and Chandler has been much smarter this time around. Surpringly, McConnell's top people have managed her race right into the ground. The NRCC has not uttered a peep in the past few weeks. Face it folks, let's hope we can get it back in November.

(from today's Jessamine Journal -- www.jessaminejournal.com)
"We just have concerns that her candidacy is not moving in the direction that some had hoped," Buford said. "I don't know how to put it politely, but it appears that she is behind in the polling and could go into double digits."

Buford said he flew to Washington last week and "got the word" from other Republicans that the party might need someone else to run.

"They're not saying that they made a mistake by choosing her, but they can't tell yet," he said.

Buford said he was told by party leaders that President Bush would not come to Kentucky to campaign for Kerr because her campaign did not appear to be strong, and since the district's special election is the first contest of the 2004 election year, the president couldn't afford to be seen supporting a candidate who might not win.

"That made me think that we had better have an alternative plan should she not make it," he said.

However, if she does win, Buford said, he will probably bow out.

"I wouldn't want to challenge an incumbent Republican congressional member, but it's not looking as if that's going to be the case," he reiterated. "That's just my take on it."

Buford said he has heard that the Kerr campaign plans to have "people from outside the district come in and storm" for her, which, he added, makes him "nervous" because there ought to be enough local Republicans to get out and campaign for her.

Sorry man, but that is just not right. Buford is a fine guy, but will be sitting on the sidelines while Alice gos to Congress. If she doesn't, I will be right there for Tom, but Chandler lost Kentucky by 10 points. This race is close, it willallbe about turnout. The ads about Chandler's obvious flip-flops debuted yesterday, and his name rec will not carry him. We will keepthis seat!

Buford's not exactly what one could call a loyal Republican. He wants Kerr to lose to further his own selfish interests...it is known he also threatened to switch to Democrat and cause them to lose control of the Senate when it was divided 20-18. He is not to be trusted. Him coming out and saying these things about Kerr in the midst of the campaign to try and demoralize the base is further evidence of this.

LexingtonGOP has also been bad-mouthing Kerr from the beginning ever since she announced as a candidate. I question his/her motives as well.

Case in point, look at his last comments in the article. What he's attacking is standard practice for the 72-hour program. He's trying to paint Kerr in the worst possible light and trying to create inferences with the public that he knows to be false.

Absolutely. I'll try to make my way over there myself for the 72 hour program.

The NRCC has been and continues airing ads. I can get Fox 56 even though I'm well outside of the Lexington viewing area. An NRCC ad just aired a few minutes ago, in fact. Any other false information you'd like to post about this race?

the NRCC has not uttered a peep publicly lately and have been running the same ad for 2 weeks with howard dean's image as the first thing you see. how effective is that right now? especially after chandler endorsed clark.

i desperately want to WIN this seat and finish off Chandler for good, but i am indeed critical of the lackluster and less than inspiring campaign Kerr's run. i'm concerned that buford is not helping us and is likely to further hurt our base's motivation to vote. and if she loses big, he'll be our nominee for the fall.

my criticism of this site is that too often people question one's motives if you are critical of anything republican. maybe a little objective analysis is good for the discussion rather than wonder whether someone has ill motives. if i did, this wouldn't be the place i would go to share them.

i just want to be honest about her campaign. kerr and chandler have their first debate on saturday night on tv. i wonder how she'll fare when forced to articulate her positions. i think mcconnell made a mistake in picking her. i'd much rather have the gop state chair ellen williams. she's very strong.

You're busted, son. JeffInSD? You made a bit of boo-boo in posting with the wrong screen name this time around. Why, SD just happens to be the other State with a special election! You wouldn't happen to be working for any certain organization and be posting on this site under the two names in some lame attempt to demoralize the base in these races, are you?

One thing's for sure: You are either lying about being in SD or lying about being in Lexington, KY! And I think the fact that both areas have special elections to congress coming up is no coincidence.

Check the posting history of both "LexingtonGOP" and "JeffinSD". You will find he has been posting demoralizing information on a number of races here for some time (every post). You will also notice the name "LexingtonGOP" was signed up after Fletcher was elected governor, knowing that a special Congressional Election would be coming up. This thread reveals he and "JeffinSD" are one and the same. He made a mistake responding to my post with the wrong screen name and exposed what his true purpose is for being here.
