Among those clearly defined areas are the defense of the nation and the defense of our borders.

Yes it does and immigration policy is part of that power. Bush made a proposal to address out of control illegal immigration, it is now the job of Congress to pass or defeat the proposal. A completely constitutional process.

Not a rational explanation

It is not only a rational explanation it is the actual explanation. Laura is the one that announced this proposal.

see 784 what the heck

You know some one already pointed out that agencies like the NEA and NPR employ the wives and girl friends of the Washington elite. So all W is doing is scratching the back of a few "good ole boys" giving the gals something to do. But he sure pick the wrong agency. Conservative hate, loath the NEA. The NEA is a symbol everything conservative find wrong with government. To increase funding is bad, to do it in a major way, with a press conference is like telling conservative to go pound sand. And this conservative got the message loud and clear.

Is the NEA really your worst nightmare? Honestly? I don't like it - I'm even a musician, and I'd love to see it get the big hook - but padding their budget is not my worst nightmare.

Bush took an oath to protecth and defend the Constitution, he made an proposal that goes against our national security.

Your response is that it's up to the Congress to protect and defend the Constitution and strike down his proposal.

This whole thread proves something....Have you noticed that the Bush-bashers were spewing their slop well before CFR was signed, well before the Medicare drug bill, well before Bush's immigration proposal....Now this. NEA. This thread proves that the bashers stand for only one thing: hating George W. Bush. The issue makes no difference, just as long as it gives them the opportunity to break new wind on FreeRepublic.

Stop spouting platitudes and start laying out the constitutional basis for your argument.

Hey you have homework to do. You are supposed to be making a case that this immigration proposal is unconstitutional.

Are you aware that the "size of government" has not changed one bit. In order to create for the Department of Homeland Security, they consolidated other agencies and used personnel from agencies that were no longer considered a priority. This fact is well documented and is a matter of Public Record.

As far as increasing spending, the budget was brought before congress for an 87 Billion $ increase to help fund the War. Other than that, the budget allotment for this year is the same.

Like I said, you make these ignorant statements without having a clue about what you're talking about. (You're not only hilarious, if you had a position of responsibility, you would be dangerous!)

I can't believe you said that to My2Cents, who happens to be an intelligent, serious, and thoughtful poster. Good heavens.

Good point. THIS is my worse nightmare --

But, I guess there are those who think the NEA is our worse nightmare, and the 9/11 attacks were simply good "reality TV programming."

Extremely bad policy, but I wouldn't call it unconstitutional just idiotic. The work product of an empty suit.

It was my performance art for the night.

You don't have to convince me to stick with President Bush. And Vice President Cheney. I love them. But I don't see anyone making a good case for why President Bush is proposing all this junky spending.

I see so you just indulged in a bit of hyperbole to make the case that Bush is simply idiotic. Do you not see the irony in that approach?
