Gut check -- would we really feel the same if "Clinton" and "cocaine" were substituted for "Rush" and "pain killers" in your paragraph?

Good and fair question. For Billy boy, my answer would NOT be the same. While that my sound hypocritical, I do believe it is consistent. Billy boy did not and does not care about you or me-or anybody but himself. I believe he is a five star sociopath that belongs behind bars, without respect to his political affiliation. I also believe that the ex-boy-president is incurable in his socialpathy, short of a true miracle.

So, if Clinton had an addiction and checked into a clinic, I still want him behind bars. I do not wish addiction on him. As much pain as he has personally or otherwise visited on others, I would have next to no sympathy for him.

I would have a lot more sympathy for the likes of Ted Kennedy. But let's say it was Jimmy Carter. I certainly would have sympathy for the man. While I am politically opposed to just about all that Carter has stood for and I think he is rather bumbling, I do believe that Carter was a decent man.

Better yet, let us take this discussion to its logical absurdity. Would I have any sympathy for Ted Bundy, the serial killer, if he had a substance abuse problem. Nah! Last, Rush is on OUR side. Why flush him down the commode of history?

Your Rush testimonial is a good summary of why I support Rush, come what may, in his current legal battle with the Fla. justice system. I have never had Rush on a pedestal or expected more from him than he gives each broadcast to his listeners. He is a talented man whom I have listened to since his show went national. I respect and admire him and it matters not at all to me that his detractors on FR, many of whom did not like him before, are wont to discredit him when given the opportunity. It is very heartfelt, tho unoriginal, when I say to Rush, don't let the 'you know who' get you down. God bless you Rush.

I think hearing about his drug addiction made me realize he's just human. But its that humanity and the struggle with the media that garnishes my respect.

It is sitting there day after day, not being able to respond to the pundits that bash you. That's why I consider him one of the greatest conservative man I'll ever know.

Rush has taught me so much. I knew nothing about politics until I started listening to him. He is a master teacher as well as an entertaining broadcaster. He has done a great deal for the America he loves. God bless you, Rush.

Same here! I credit Rush with opening everyone's political eyes. The average little guy never used to be bothered with "politics as usual". Rush should be credited with giving citizens in our country a huge wake up call.

If you're lurking here, Rush, GOD BLESS YOU!

Thank you, Veronica. Didn't you comment on it last night? I posted it so late, except for the West Coast. I think I had somebody from California comment on it last night.

I've lost ALL respect for the junkie.

You have no understanding of the addiction problems that anyone who takes Oxycodone for chronic pain on a daily basis ends up with.

I understand it well, as I use the stuff too.

I cannot walk at all without it, and I hope that Rush's problems with his back are not as debilitating as mine with my joints.

He did not get like he did for recreational reasons.

That is what makes and defines a "junkie".

How absolutely excellent, Chris - words both written and spoken!! I heard you on Rush today, and I heard what Rush said to you. The personalization of his comments to you are rare enough to know for a fact that he was genuinely touched by what you wrote.

The sports writers felt there was no way he could be having those pains and aches, given his athletic greatness. So to some degree during his career, during his lfetime, Clemente's legend never got that big. It was blocked for his being labeled a whiner.

I think the primary reasons Clemente did not get the props due him until after his death were two-fold. He had a heavy accent which made him a poor interview subject on tv/radio. I saw first-hand the same experience with Jose Cruz, another great player (though not as great as Clemente) whose English was difficult to understand. If the media can't use you, they aren't going to sing your praises. The second thing holding back Clemente was that he played in Pittsburgh, not New York or Los Angeles. Had Clemente played for New York and Willie Mays played for the Pirates, you'd have seen Clemente lauded the way Mays was.

Don't know if you (or your brother) are still lurking on this thread, Rush, but you're a great American and I want to thank you for the work you do for conservatism.

Your essay is beautiful. Thank you for sticking up for my friend Rush. We have a number of Rush "HATERS" at FR. Not one of them has ever articulated why they hate Rush. Most of them remind me of the hateful left. I heard you on Rush -- you were great. Welcome to FR and I for one am thrilled you are here! Martha

don't really care who he is and you are a Canadian socialist.

As a former Habs fan I think I need to come to this guy's defense. First of all, the article was pathetic. Second of all, just because the guy stated the obvious does not make him a socialist, a whiner, or a DU troll. The guy in the article had his head so far up Limbaugh's a$$, I am thinking he could see that golden EIB mic. No wonder he got on the show.
