"Eh gads, that might lead to a feeling of empowerment, and loss of control by the central government."

Come on, you know that you're only allowed to feel empowered if you are a cross-dresser, have an STD, or have the minimum required melanin count.

Sheesh. Next you'll be telling me reactionary things like that people should be judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin.

Sorry to point out the painfully obvious, but debunking idiocy is part of what this site is for, so:

capable of firing 1,100 rounds a minute

...in movies where no one ever reloads.

The report said the Glock can fire "armour-piercing ammunition".

...which differs from every single other weapon chambered in the same caliber in absolutely no way at all.

a Glock 18, banned from sale in the US and described as a "monster of a weapon" that fires bullets with the intensity of a high- pressure water hose.

in·ten·si·ty: The amount or degree of strength of electricity, light, heat, or sound per unit area or volume.

The bullets hit with the force of a stream of water? Neat! Let's spray each other, and catch the bullets in a baseball mit!

If it was fired on the streets of London by someone unused to its immense firing capability, there could be a massacre

If someone wasn't used to it, the muzzle most likely drift upward, at nothing. Now if someone were used to full auto, they might be capable of hitting what they intended.

Why even a criminal would want to own such a gun is beyond me

This one stands on its own.

How strong do you figure your thumb would have to be to get that last cartridge into an 1100-round mag?

Smart people, of course, would save the spring from overcompression by only loading 1099 rounds...

Why anyone who is NOT a criminal would want to live in the UK is beyond me!

Recall the "Crocodile Dundee" line about his knife? Something like, "That's not a a knife. This (pulling out his foot-long, back-sharp blade) is a knife."

Well, THIS http://www.metalstorm.com/ is a terrifying weapon.

The REALLY smart people could just hire Wilt Chamberlain wearing a pair of stilts to actually fire the thing.

Don't journalists read what they write?

A force internal report said: "This is the first weapon of its kind to be seized in the UK. It is not issued to any agencies in the UK ... SAS officers use the gun in combat with a 19-round magazine

Good grief what a sensationalistic hand wringing total load of BS.....
Incredi bull .....It's amazing that out right LIES pass for journalism......

Guess what a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 8 rounds of 3 inch double OO buckshot
puts out more 9mm sized projectiles (@15 per trigger pull) than the "devastating" Glock 18
with a 30 round magazine...

Of course once the hysteria of the Glock 18 dies down...they can focus on the deadlier than an nuclear anthrax/AIDS hybrid bomb....the 12 gauge shotgun...

I figure it empties in a second or less, and the muzzle flies up uncontrollably. It's little better than a single shot.

Sounds like a great gun. They should legalize it.

"It is not issued to any agencies in the UK and is believed to have been imported from the US."

Since when is the SAS not an agency with in the UK.

firing 1,100 rounds a minute...Glock 18

Too bad there isn't any mag that can hold that many rounds for it.

Kinda puts the 30 mm GAU/8A Gatling I use for plinking the local rabbit population to shame.

...capable of firing 1,100 rounds a minute...

My 12 gage shotgun can fire three rounds per second, and loaded with triple-ought buck that makes for 1620 "rounds" - .36 inch diameter lead pellets - per minute. And instead of a 19 round clip, it holds 9 shotgun rounds, or 81 "rounds".

Of course it doesn't sound as cool. But I maintain it's at least as deadly. And you can buy one at Wal-Mart.

Re: Scotland Yard has issued a nationwide alert as they try to find the owner and establish how the weapon got into Britain.

Why not just pass more meaningless legislation which punishes those who value their own security ?

The official term for them is "hoplophobes"--but I prefer GFW (Gun-Fearing Wussy).

Think I'll use that for my tagline...

What is it with the Brit press that loves to overstate silliness?

Maybe we can get some British freeper to email us some of those 1100 round magazines?

Lockyer and DiFi are already planning the news conference proposing the ban, just in case someone thinks about manufacturing one.
