PAUL O'NEILL WON'T GO AWAY

Fired former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill is in the news again. He now says that he stands by his criticism of the inner workings of the Bush administration, but regrets his "vivid language" is detracting from serious issues. He says that he hopes "this book will cause young people to aspire to improve our political process." Interesting. Not sure that that has to do with calling the President of the United States "a blind man in a room full of deaf people," but why sweat the small stuff.

And speaking of President Bush, he has finally made a statement about the Paul O'Neill controversy, and this is an absolute classic. Speaking at a dinner on Saturday night, the President said "What a stellar crowd. It looks like the index of Paul O'Neill's book. Let me say something about that book. Paul said I was disengaged because he talked to me for 45 minutes and I didn't say a word. I wasn't disengaged. I was bored as hell and my mother told me never to interrupt."

It's hard to argue with that. Politicians really should tell the truth more

He actually said that? And you think it's funny?

Is it possible to link me to something that confirms this, puts it in context etc? I've never heard this before and it seems incredible. A governor mocking someone on death row seems to be in poor taste, imo.

I don't have a link handy. I just remember when it was reported. Yes, it is unusual. That's an example of the regular sort of guy Bush is. To mimic a murderer begging for mercy. Not something my wife would find funny but I find hilarious.

I just googled it. It seems that he said it in an interview with Tucker Carlson and Talk magazine. I'd love to read the original article but couldn't find that. You're certainly entitled to your opinion but I'm appalled.

Not all guys. Last night my husband read through our exchange and his reaction was pretty much the same as mine.

Well, this seems to be a serious issue for you. If you both are so offended and appalled I guess you may want to consider voting for Dean or someone else that's perhaps a tad more sensitive. LOL!
