The walkout by Coffman, a former Marine and Gulf War I veteran, was a protest against the fact that Tancredo avoided service in Vietnam by obtaining a medical deferment for mental health reasons.

Words fail me.

Tancredo was too crazy to go to 'Nam when it was his turn, but now he's sane enough to serve in Congress, and some people want him to become President and get his finger on The Button?

THIS is the "true conservative" standard-bearer?

Obviously, fringers pick THE worst of the worst to support, which make them " PURE " Conservatives and those of us ( Bushbots ? LOL )who fight for someone who CAN actually win an election, aren't Conservatives at all. LOL

Sooooooooo, Tancredo just MUST be the better choice, because he's against illegal aliens; but, he isn't running, has repeatedly asked his cultish followers to NOT write his name in, is supporting President Bush, and has more than a few black marks against him. With that kind of thinking, it's a wonder his sycophants aren't promoting him for king of the world! ;^)

Anyone able to refute the claim that Tancredo got out of serving in Viet Nam for 'mental health reasons?'

Is this a matter of public record?

Before I believe it, I'd like to see verification of it, beyond this one article.......

I was surprised too. Found a second article on it.

I didn't know much about him until he became the champion of a few of the 'Karl Rove is evil, Bush is not a true conservative' posters.

Do a search on him. The more I find....wow. He's extremely unpopular with Hispanics, and not just because of his anti-immigration stands (he calls the illegals foreign invaders and criminal terrorists). He's supports and has given speeches for Glenn Spencer’s American Patrol, and Barbara Coe’s California Coalition for Immigration Reform - listed as hate groups along with the KKK, Aryan Nation, American Nazi Party, etc. The Mexican press of course hates him. A contractor that remodeled his home used illegal immigrants, Tancredo knew but did nothing. He refuses to talk to print reporters but will talk to radio or TV. Submitted a measure to abolish all race-based caucuses like the Black Congressional Caucus (ok - that's kinda of funny and true, race based organizations are annoying but there is this little thing of freedom of association...besides, that's politically stupid)

Anyhow, the more I find out - like before, only the previously pro-Tancredo blogs were nice, for the rest, controversial and colorful to be nice. CNN uses him as the "upset Republican" when McCain isn't available.
