MUSLIM EXTREMISTS MOUNT ATTACKS IN NORTHERN NIGERIA
Compass Direct ^ | Nigeria - Friday January 16, 2004

Police and military units in the northeastern state of Yobe, Nigeria, ended a violent attempt last week by Muslim militants to carve out an Islamic Republic there.

Extremists allegedly affiliated with the Taliban movement in Afghanistan raided eight Nigerian towns, attacking police stations, burning buildings and stealing weapons.

Two policemen were reportedly killed in clashes, and hundreds of people fled their homes.

The militant group established a base near the Niger border a year ago.

Pledging their loyalty to the leader of Afghanistan’s Taliban, Mullah Umar, they distributed leaflets stating their intention to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria.

However, the extremists gained minimal support among the local population.

Yobe Governor Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim, a Muslim, described the militants as “anarchists and trouble makers.”

When questioned about deaths among the civilian Christian population, Police Inspector Fatai Fagbemi declined to comment.

“We cannot discuss this in the media. Religion is a volatile issue that calls for caution,” he said.

I wonder when France and other parts of Europe will start to see this happening?

“We cannot discuss this in the media. Religion is a volatile issue that calls for caution,” he said. Yeah, it is because of those Christians who have been raiding and killing because of their violent religious beliefs that "we" can't say anything.

Islam is a RELIGION OF PEACE. It is only those fanatical extremists in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Sudan, etc., that high-jacked it.

How many extremists and in how many countries do they have to commit murder and mayhem without any widespread outcry from their fellow religious believers does it take before there are enough to say that Islam is religion of violence and intolerance?

Well, we certainly know what our current leader says" "Islam is a religion of peace".

There is a basic lack of official recognition that Islam, itself, is the enemy. If this doesn't change we will end up losing to them.
