I think "Master and Commander" is the Best Picture but "Lord Of The Rings" will most likely get the nod.

I agree, tough call with these two, but I thought the Master and Commander was the best. LOTR will get it though.

I haven't seen this one. Is he really that good? What range of emotions is he required to portray? Or is he just being a kindly old man?

Ring Ping. LotR had better win it all.

Best supporting actress to me would be Renée Zellweger in COLD MOUNTAIN. I thought she did an amazing job with the plucky character.

Hard choices. I think Lord of the Rings was a phenomenal film...so, I choose it. Loved Master and Commander... Loved Seabiscuit and Loved The Last Samaria, which was not nominated.
So, let's go Peter Jackson!

I disagree. The Oscars history shows that a third installment of a trilogy has no chance at a leading award, and will more than likely be relegated to best visual effects. That said, RotK is by far the best out of all the movies. But watch 'Mystic River' win. Ugh. I would love a repeat of the Globes with Bill Murray and Renee Zellweiger winning. My picks for best picture:
Lord of the Rings: RotK- by far the best movie
Lost in Translation and Seabiscuit: Upset specials
Mystic River: the typical Hollywood liberal vote getter.

Was cold Mountain an anti-war movie? I got that impression from the commercials.

Renee is the new darling of the awards shows. She'll bag it.

I agree with most of the nominations, but Seabiscuit in my opinion didn't deserve one for best picture. They should have thrown American Splendor a bone.

That's what I was afraid of. Murray can pull that one off without effort.

I'm going to pull for Murray for LiT. From what I gather, Theron is a shoo-in for Leading Actress.

I didn't get the impression that it was anti-war...not really. It was pretty graphic in it's portrayal of how ugly the civil war was in the south.
Even then, from the accounts that I have read, I thought the movie was mild in comparison of just how ugly, rough and cruel it really was.
