I agree - they are likely to have backup plans.
For the life of me, I can't figure out why they don't just swarm the bad guys after they get on the planes.
The cancellations seem to have something to do with more than just passengers (cargo?), IMHO.

its because they don't know who they are. they don't know who they are by either name or via facial recognition. the only way to catch them would be to conduct searches of passengers after they board to find the explosives (and that's not going to happen, because it would involve body cavity searches), or allow the plane to take off and have marshalls try and figure out what is happening. would you want to take that chance? how are the marshalls supposed to figure out which woman entering the lavatory is the body cavity bomber?
so, the only thing they are left with, is cancelling the flights.
