It was a concepts of the 17th through the 18th century "Europeans" - not the current crop of "Europeans." In this sense America is now more "European" than Europe. It is they who have "moved on," not we.

There are a few still around, mostly British no surprise. Other countries are catching the Frontier bug--China and India--and they have it worse than Americans.
