Why did he want his wife removed? Was the crowd turning ugly or something? This is just plain weird.

"I'm a human being" That's something of an exaggeration, I'd say.

Probably to keep her from being crushed by the mob.

I'd like to know more about the context of the remarks also.

But it turned ugly after the rally when he ordered his aides to remove his politically shy wife, Judith Steinberg Dean. "Get her out," he said. "Get her out. Get her out."
Could someone please explain the context of this? It doesn't make much sense, as written.

Was Mrs. Dean okay? I mean it was a Dean rally. I wouldn't weant a loved one there, either.

What is weird is how many holes there are in this "news report", making it look like he had no reasons for his actions, and that they were just crazy outbursts, like a Tourette's case.
To: Peach
Yea I want to know the reason why too. I am going to give him the benfit of the doubt since the media has decided to bash Dean at every convenience. Not that I am a Dean fan but I don't trust the media because they have chosen Dean as the candidate to make fun of.

Sounds like he was worried about her. Maybe the crowd got unruly. She's doesn't seem like she is confortable being in front of large crowds.

Somehow I doubt this characterization.
And the statement
Dean's campaign has been in freefall since an appearance just before the Iowa caucuses in which he appeared less than presidential.
Is wrong, since Dean lost ground, but has been gaining since Wednesday.

I need to be a politician after all. Perks get better all the time. I'd KILL for some aids who would "whisk my wife away" every time I yelled "Get her out now!" What man wouldn't?

It's safe to say none of us are Dean supporters on this thread, but this story just does not make sense, as you and many freepers have noted.

The media has now turned on Dean fearing he may lose it for them- they dogged Clinton until they thought he may win - then loved and supported him- it is possible he was concerned about her- but just the way he refers to her to a staff person is strange- why not "Could you please take care of my wife before the crowds get too much?" He is a strange one!

Why did he order her out? Was it to protect her? I think Dean would be a terrible President but I don't think he's a monster. Is he?

This article has the journalistic flare of a three-year old interrupting his parents' conversation to tell them that there's a tree outside.
