Whichever response I make would be meaningless to this discussion. Discussion over.

"The U.N.'s Agenda 21 is promoting it in cities and townships across America. A thick, expensively packaged, packet was hand delivered to our door and every door in town urging that we develop neighborhood associations."

Reason enough to oppose this. I had forgotten about this connection: "Consensus building."

Pod.... Since any property tax is in effect RENT to local government (even on "owned" homes) this has legs (if it does) because of far deeper problems rooted in socialism. Scrap the socialism problem is gone, if you don't, theres a plethora of this and other problems as symptoms to the disease. Democracy is a prelude to socailism which is a prelude to communism.... as Karl Marx and Lenin clearly saw... Once, our unique form of a Republic is gone.. morphed into a democracy.. the other stages will naturally proceed.. as it is NOW...

Thats what ails the republicans, cutting off the lizards tail instead of its HEAD... POD.. this is just a tail...

I understand.

A lot of the "head" is the "Global Governance" stuff the UN is trying to push. As I am sure you know, all one has to do is look at the Biodiversity Treaty, the Seville Strategy, ad nauseum...

The UN is evil as is abortion on demand, socialism (of various types), Islam , central banking, and Hillary Clinton ... Theres a lot of evil in the world.. Actually theres various forms of evil in the town I live in too... SO what do you do! ?

Count your blessings.. and be grateful for them, because gratitude is the rarest commodity on earth... Do That.. as Bob Dylan said, "You gotta serve somebody".. choose wisely..

Is making a profit blatantly from the misfortunes of others immoral? I would say Yes.

So, my doctor and dentist are both immoral for charging me a fee (with profit) when I go to them with an illness? Is my being ill not a misfortune? Seems pretty cold-hearted of you.

What is wrong with putting a lean on homes that don't pay homeowners associations what is due them? The lean would be paid off when the property is sold.

How about because then none of the homeowners would pay the fee, since they could defer them indefinitely. Then the Association would go broke and not be able to pay to maintain the roads, pools, property, and other services they were supposed to do. Then the homeowners would sue them for not performing in accordance with the agreement. :-)

Why? Where is the fallacy in logic? Or humor?

It's called ad absurdum. Carrying the other guys argument past the point where it was intended, in order to hold it up to ridicule.

BS.

You said, "Is making a profit blatantly from the misfortunes of others immoral? I would say Yes."

Now, either you think (1) my doctor is immoral, or (2) you think my illness is not a misfortune.

Which is it?

Nothing absurd here other than the logic of your statement.

The absurdity is you think your application of my statement is perfectly reasonable.

It's hard to believe people want to sign away their property rights for the security of having others tell them what to do.

Some HOA's can get pretty heavy handed, but some just maintain basic services from the dues. This sounded like a pretty upscale community, at least it had the potential for that. It's not fair for all of your neighbors to be the only ones to bear the burden of a community well, or maintaining gravel roads that all drive on, and with $120 (ten bucks a month) as the annual dues, I doubt the HOA was maintaining a swimming pool. If the HOA hadn't been providing basic utilities, then you can be sure some tax-levying authority would have been, and they get to foreclose, too.

Here in WA, you can't lose your home on petty judgments like this, it forms a lien on the property, and bears interest. At some time, the lien would have been paid when the home was sold or refinanced. It seems that CA needs to look at a possible change in the law to prevent hard cases like this one.

I know what I'd do, and I don't care if I got sent to jail for it...they could take the house...in a burnt to a crisp condition!

OK fine I give up. The old couple was the only party with rights. How hypocritical, condemning, and self righteous I must off seemed for failing to grasp a simple fact. Thanks for setting me straight. Also thanks for the cool new word.

Pharisaical.
