We even had domestic attacks prior to 9.11.2001. The World Trade Center was bombed in 1993 and there was a sniper outside the CIA headquarters shooting agents. There may be other incidents but there doesn't seem much interest at large tying them all to the same motivator (Islamofascism).

One of the biggest surprises for me was how little outrage Americans expressed over this refusal to link the motivator by our leaders. The conclusion I drew is that our institutions want the people stupid and sheep like.
