actually marriage is an institution. If it were a contract the terms of the agreement would not change. As an institution, legilatures can change the terms of divorce process at will. Child support guidelines and rules for enforcemnt change almost annually.

Child visitation is virtually irrelevant in the court system. I have yet to see a judge who will enforce visitation with the same zeal as a mere accusation for an increase in child support.

Whatever the terminology--men are not getting married at the rates they used to in nations with laws like our own. I won't pay half my salary to my ex-wife till I die.

All you Evangelicals want to save the instituition of marriage? Save the men from the divorce and child custody laws.

Aside thought: From what I hear in such marriages gay men both work and have no kids so divorce won't mean much to them but to a hetero man it is a killer.
