Are you saying that the "Democrats love of Fidel" is the reason we (the USofA) should show the Communist dictator any deference - should not harass his butt and do everything we can to topple him into the Caribbean?

There's a difference between explaining a situation and promoting it.
The DemoRats support of Fidel is a simple fact of life. No action against Fidel will occur without their approval or the approval of a large bloc. Look how difficult it is to maintain the embargo in the face of DemoRat "fact finding" trips to Cuba.
No action against Fidel will occur no matter how right it is, no matter how beneficial to Cuba, the Caribbean, the USA, or the world. The DemoRats will not allow it. The unfortunate fact is that we will have to wait until he dies or finds his life suddenly shortened by coup or rebellion. At that point, I hope we are able to push a measure through to support the rebellion or do some creative "peace keeping" on the coup.
