A statewide organization of more than 260 sheriffs, police chiefs, district attorneys and victims of violence is set to release a new report on how the severe shortage of after-school funding for high schools is detrimental to California's public safety. Crime data indicate the after-school hours are the peak hours for teens to commit crime and become victims of crime.

Those who participate in the Advance Briefing will receive an embargoed copy of the report. The report will then be released statewide at a news conference two days later.

This first-of-its-kind report cites the severe shortages of after-school programs facing every California county and profiles more than 35 programs across the State. It also presents new California-specific evidence that quality after-school programs cut crime, reduce drug use, and improve academic achievement.

When I was a kid in school there was plenty of after school activities, of course we called them jobs/chores.

It seems to me that this is the parent's problem, not the
government's. When I was a kid I had a part-time job to go to.
