Fred Quedenfeld, an Army sergeant during the war, recalled the heavy thermal jackets and "Mickey Mouse boots" that air would be pumped into to insulate a soldier's feet. The Feasterville veteran, who took aerial photographs for the Army during the war, also remembered getting in trouble for doing more than just snapping photos of enemy positions - he was dropping grenades. "There was this floating bridge we were trying to take out," he said.
