[history]
Health care for the uninsured is shaping up to be the next big issue this election year, and President Bush staked his claim on Tuesday, outlining a handful of proposals to help the uninsured get medical coverage.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said he intends to push all of the proposals in Congress this year, including refundable tax credits to help poor Americans buy health insurance

**"This administration's been AWOL when it comes to providing health care for the uninsured," Mr. Manley said. "Now in an election year, the president is focusing on it." **
Idiots. The DEMS had EIGHT YEARS to do something about this and did NOTHING. They have NO room to talk.

The Dem's simply provide cover, just as the GOP does at fundraising time.
It keeps the contributions rolling in.
The House of Lords had higher turnover.

The majority of people without health insurance are of two sorts: Those that don't want it and those that can't afford it. Those that don't want it shouldn't have it forced on them, and I don't see any propsoals that will genuinely address those that can't afford it. Tax credits are usually in the form of a credit against taxes due and only of benefit to those that owe more in taxes than the premiums would cost, which is probably not the majority of the poor uninsured.

Man, I am so sorry. I was spamming the thread list to help add to the google ranking for micheal moore to move up to #1 for "miserable failure".
Bret66 had a great idea on another thread, that is to put it in our taglines. That way it shows up on each thread we vist and that thread is counted as 1 hit more toward putting Micheal Moore at #1 miserable failure.

OK, I'll bite - but I cannot promise I will keep my tagline as such (although I really would like to see this happen).

Mr. Bush also proposed allowing those who buy catastrophic health coverage under the new Medicare law's Health Savings Accounts to deduct the entire cost of their premium from their income taxes. This doesn't sound so bad --- they pay premiums from their income ---- the only way people will get medical care is from working --- the employer provides plans they purchase as a group, or pays the employee enough to buy their own plan --- or else it's socialism government provided medical care. The good think about only catastrophic health care coverage is that's all some of us need and want.
