Up until Gaius Marius around 100 BC, one not only had to be a Roman citizen, but a landowner as well in order to serve in the army. I wonder having a no money down, interest only loan held by a Government Sponsored Enterprise and issued to you on the basis of race qualifies you as a "landowner".

Depends on whom you ask. According to the socialists, it doesn't because there are no "landowners". They think that the government owns everything implicitly and the people whose names are on the deeds are just "occupiers".
