Dear George Carpenter, Wilmette Police Chief
Thank you, very much, for the Sterling Business Opportunity you have offered me. When is most convenient, for me to commence my business (general mayhem, car thefts, break-ins, rapes, armed robberies, kidnappings, murdering)...I have a map.
One problem, I'm sure your fine village elders would not want me to be afraid, it so P.C. so could you give me all your officers' addresses so I could avoid their domiciles....(they will have guns, you know)....or are those guns kept at the police stations, too? Again, Thank You, very much.
signed, your average thug
P.S. - A box of glazed Donuts (13) and pot of Hazelnut (decaf.) Java will be at your local "Starbucks" waiting for you.

This police chief is the type the Founding Fathers warned us about. "The militia, sir, is our ultimate safety. We can have no security without it." -- Patrick Henry

Great letter!
...The police were called and in routine fashion they came, took the report and with little concern left, promising to increase surveillance...
In years past, my home has been robbed. I never even had the slim satisfaction of having the cops show up at all in the first case, several days later in the second.
Now, I have four rottweilers and everyone in the house is armed. Cops are barely useful as traffic monitors and verifying insurance claims. Utterly useless for protection.

Well written. But the power hungry control freaks who pass gun bans have no sense of shame or comprehension that they could be wrong.

I'm glad Mr. DeMar spoke up. Here is the web site for the "Trustees". I've left messages on all answering machines, but talked to Bernard Michna, what a little tyrant.

"The misdemeanors are unlikely to bring jail time. Wilmette Police Chief George Carpenter did not criticize DeMar for protecting his family but said homes are safer without handguns." Following that logic-- why do the Police insist on endangering the public by carrying guns?
To: kattracks
Bravo to Mr. DeMar...The Wilmette police chief and town council need to be replaced immediately.

The Nazi police chief needs to be endicted on federal charges of depriving this homeowner of his civil Rights.
I'm not holding my breath for George the Bush or Janet Ashcroft to prosecute him.

Agree. He should have had the shotgun.
Also, he should have emptied his clip. Oh well. There's always next time.

''Also, he should have emptied his clip.'' No disrespect or offense meant, but it's a magazine. A 'clip' holds the rounds so they can be fed into a gun magazine. I know the word 'clip' & 'magazine' is often used interchangeably but it's technically wrong. Again NO OFFENSE meant.

He needs to trade in the handgun for a shotgun. Exactly. Handguns are for "just in case". Long guns are for when you are expecting trouble.

My only criticism ... This place is just FULL of crack shots.
Mr. DeMar did just fine; we have no idea of the circumstances of the shooting - the perp could have been armed, it was night and *probably* dark, and I *doubt* the perp just stood still and asked to be shot center of mass, nor did he stick around after the first hit.
Life is not a John Woo movie, and shooting at people that don't want to be shot is not the same as shooting beer bottles down at the landfill.

I'm not a firearms expert, but I would guess that a 38 caliber Smith & and Wesson is a revolver, not an automatic.
It probably holds six rounds (like my Ruger Security Six 357). Therefore no clip or magazine.
