The economy was today's hot topic, as the President spoke with participants during a discussion on job training and the economy at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township, Ohio.
He traveled on to Phoenix to attend a discussion on job training and the economy at Mesa Community College, the day after announcing in his State of the Union address a $250 million proposal for new job-training grants channeled through community colleges.
The White House hosted its second "Radio Day" on Wednesday as an opportunity for local and national radio hosts to interview White House officials and Cabinet members. Full story.
Tomorrow, the President's Economic Advisor Greg Mankiw will discuss the economy on Ask the White House tomorrow at 1:30pm. Submit questions here.
Karen Hughes was today's guest on Ask the White House.
Laura Bush spoke to reporters at Discovery Middle School after visiting a seventh-grade Learning Strategies class in Orlando, Florida. She also took part in a roundtable discussion of research-based education methods for literacy challenged students.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Text of Address at Owens Community College
The ability for these community colleges to do their job means we better have people coming out of high school who can read and write and add and subtract. The best place to start is early. And we're starting early now in America. We're testing to make sure we figure out who needs extra help. And the federal government is increasing federal spending, particularly on Title I students, in dramatic fashion. I also think we need to spend additional money for kids in high school. See, there's a learning gap where the accountability systems are late in arriving in certain places, and, therefore, some kids have been shuffled through.
... I think we need to spend an additional $100 million for high school and intermediate reading programs. We want these kids at least reading when they're coming out of high school. And you've got to be honest about it. And these presidents of these community colleges will tell you, sometimes they're getting kids out of high school that can't read. And that's a shame. And that's not right. And we can focus extra resources there.

I'm sorry, I know it's not related....but I just thought this was priceless:
On his program, Jay Leno quipped: "I'm not an expert in politics, but I think it's a bad sign when your speech ends with your aides shooting you with a tranquilizer gun."

Watching the SOTU again! GREAT speech!!
I'm always struck in these photos with how totally COMFORTABLE people are when they're with our President!

I think I'd be hysterical if I met him. I can see it now..."Oh my God, can I hug you? Will you autograph this? Can I follow you around for a while...like the rest of my life?"
