I'll say a few things on Gephardt's behalf..he did the right thing in standing by the President at the Rose Garden for the Iraq vote...and in 30+ years in Congress...there's been hardly a whiff of scandal, and he's been married to the same lady for all that time..and never strayed... that speaks well of him....unlike most in his caucus....for me, the defining Gephart moment was in 94, when he handed the Speaker's gavel to Newt...Dick always wanted to be Speaker..for him, in reality, being President was the second choice..

I vividly remember Gephardt standing in a Virginia elementary school telling the students that if the (1994) Republican Congress passed their proposed budget, that the students would lose their lunch program. A LIE!

The school principal denied his statement the following day by pointing out that their school lunch program did NOT receive any Federal Funding! Oh well, what did the students know?

...there's been hardly a whiff of scandal...

Was he involved in keeping the election open to steal it from Ashcroft, and didn't one of his thugs rough up an opponent in a parade during electiontime? Those two incidents stick out with me but they're kinda foggy and I'm not sure if it was Gephardt that was involved in these two incidents.
