In my opinion, a lot of Bush-lovers here love Bush because he has supported THEIR conservative values: helping big businesses get bigger, slave-labor illegals, allowing jobs to leave to overseas. Some of the Bush supporters here might feel a little different if they weren't living so high on the hog; wondering if your job is about to get taken by an illegal or moved overseas might change your tune. I guess, to some here, our degenerating morality and swelling federal government spending doesn't seem all that bad as long as Bush is keeping them on the gravy-train. I am concerned by this speech tonight for how many MORE dollars he's going to steal out of my wages so he can claim to be "compassionate". I think this concern has a value on this thread, along side the one's who think Bush can do no wrong.

I only fault Bush to the extent of the out-of-control spending. I know there are going to be some real cringe-factor moments in this speech as he talks of propsals he's going to be making to Congress. He's going to go one step too far one of these days, and more middle-of-the-road conservatives are going to join the unappeasables in their disgust. I'm one of them, and I know of many others who are on the brink.

As for the jobs going overseas and the illegals, I can't lay any of that at his feet. These things have been going on for years, and to be honest, the issues are so complex that I don't know that a man fighting a global war on terror can devote enough time to 'solve' a problem to which there may be no solution. I know that governemnt in general is a big obstacle in businesses expanding. Regulation is onerous and special interest groups, especially enviro weirdos have taken a huge toll on jobs. No, I won't lay job loss on Bush.

I've yet to meet a Freeper who says W "can do no wrong." But I understand the need to characterize your enemy that way, or as rich capitalists, or some other nonsense.
