To the extent there has been any hesitation at all by Bush and Rove in their hard run to the left it is due to the influence of so-called "unappeasables" who voted for him in 2000 but who are expressing grave reservations about doing so again. We are his conscience, that nagging voice that demands accountability.

The simpering, fawning, kowtowing excuse-all sycophants who hang on his every word and call for the heads of his conservative critics--they are the real danger both to his presidency and to this nation. They demand no accountability whatsoever and are content to allow him to distribute breezy platitides to chew on rather than give them the meat of responsible self-government.

I personally like Bush a great deal. He's a wonderful, caring, capable, and decisive man. But he has been ill-served by his legion of blind-worship fans. It is my fondest desire that he be marked in history as one of our great presidents. Unfortunately he has just about squandered his best chances to reach even the second tier.

We "unappeasables" are Bush's best and most loyal friends--because we're willing to tell him his breath stinks and his fly is undone while all his swooning fans bat their eyelashes and beg to be allowed to kiss his Texas boots.

I have yet to see that kind of fawning. If you think we are bad to want to kick back and enjoy the speech and have a bit of a good time, don't read the comments. It'll only disturb you and I wouldn't want that.

I don't agree with Bush on some things either, but tonight I'm hoping to enjoy good company and a good speech.

A few snide remarks about Hillary are always a necessity, too!

I like that. I consider myself to be passionate, military veteran patriot, one who is not afraid to step outside the party line and tell truth, and one who trust no contemporary politician.

Not so, KC...many of us respect the man, but still are unhappy with SOME of his actions. He said he was a compassionate conservative and we're seeing what he meant when he said that. More gubmint spending--not so good, recess appointment, Irak, Afghanistan, War on terror, tax cuts, alternate energy sources, etc=good...

It's a war against the DemoSocialists in the USA...we have many, many battles to fight against them...in the end we will win.

We will LOSE, however, if we allow them to divide us, if we divide our selves into the Kiss boots crowd and Pout in the corner-I'm not voting for HIM again gang....remember it's the LONG VIEW that will get us Victory in '04 and '08.

The Clintons had the long view and look what it got them and what they are STILL getting now...THEY are the evil we must join together and stamp out--forever.

Get a grip, Kev. And stop thinking you are the only individuals in this life who speak back to this administration when they disagree. The reality is that you will never find a 100% president. I'll take this one over the alternatives - and that doesn't make me a suck-up. It makes me an informed voter.

Now, if what you mean by holding the president accountable is to vote for a lib/dem, stay home, or otherwise waste a vote, then you have a different definition than I.

To each his own vote. The only gripe I have is with those who come to FR in order to mischaracterize (read: lie about) those who intend to vote for this president in this election.

Lord love a duck. When someone understands that you really cannot please all of the people all of the time - especially as President of the U.S., you snidely say "we bat our lashes and kiss his boots."

Of course we have disagreements with policy, but because we do not turn every thread into a screaming nitpick of everything the man does some are unhappy and react with snide unrelenting attacks.

The pity is that reasoned opposition is lost because of this behavior. Now I would really appreciate hearing what the man, the President has to say tonight and hoped we could have a little fun - or is that the real problem? We must be constantly serious and without humor - like Democrats?

. Unfortunately he has just about squandered his best chances to reach even the second tier.

President Bush's finest moments are yet to come.

As are our own.

We all have a part to play, but we cannot afford to have democrat leadership at the helm during this perilous time.

Hold his feet to the fire, if you believe he needs it, I certainly don't understand all his actions, but he continues
to outfox and out wit the "loyal opposition" and our enemies.

Let's see what he has to say, he may just surprise us.
