I hired somebody for a new position last year. I offered the job to the candidate that was overwhelmingly the best qualified and most talented. It wasn't until I was putting together the offer letter that I found out he was an H1B.

Should I fire him now and take the lesser candidates?

No, but the burden is on you to prove to the rest of us nobody in the country could fill this job and relocate to your area. A website should be provided for employers considering hiring an H1B and all citizens should have the right to look at these jobs and apply for them.

It's probably not you, but I've seen people abuse these programs. How can it be justified that there are people training their replacements, there's just no excuse for that.

I don't think we should eliminate the H1B visa program, but it needs greater oversight. I prefer this to the outright outsourcing of jobs, since these people offer many benefits to our country, and help us with the "brain drain" that keeps us on top.

I have to recant my earlier statement. My candidate was not an H1B. I spoke too soon with faulty memory. He's a permanent resident alien.

All I did was put an ad up on monster.com, review about two hundred resumes, and his floated quickly to the top. I interviewed ten candidates and he was head and shoulders above the others. In his case it wasn't even about the money. I actually offered him more than we had advertised to allow for his higher level of experience.

I think that America is strongest when the best people are hired to do the best work.
