WHAT IS UP WITH THIS RETRAINING FOR JOBS? HOW ABOUT PREVENTING OUR CORPORATIONS THAT BENEFIT FROM OUR COUNTRY TO SHIP PROFESSIONAL JOBS OVERSEAS TO 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES?

Do you support free and fair trade or do you want the government to tell businesses who they can hire, who they can subcontract to, etc. That's pretty close to the minority hiring and contract awards in place now. More of that?

Yes, it sucks that jobs are going overseas to where they are cheaper, more profitable. We have to do it better and more cheaply - or lose it. That's the way free trade works.

The president mentioned retraining, you want to retrain professionals with many years of experience, with masters and Phds because they can't compete with people that make 1/10th of their salary?

President mentioned biotech. You do know that these jobs can be done more cheaply overseas right? Have you visited a university lately, I have, my Masters degree I could count the US citizens with one hand (actually half a hand).

Why don't we just export the executives and CEOs of these companies, I'm sure their jobs can be done more cheaply overseas. Heck, might as well make move the HQs of these companies, HP could very well do their job in India rather than the US. That's where we are heading anyways.

"That's the way free trade works."

Do tell.
Are you under the impression that we and for that matter other countries practice "free trade?"

If so, would you be interested in buying some Florida land from me?
I promise its' dry at least part of the time...

I agree. Many people look at an incredibly complex issue and truly believe that they can solve it with a one liner. I just wish, it was that simple. I am always reminded that an action is met with a reaction, the penduluum always swings, cause and effect, etc., etc.
Health care, Retirement, employment/unemployment and even Immigration are issues that need to be looked at not with emotion, but with careful planning. I am ultra conservative, however some of the silly thoughtless comments do concern me sometimes.
