Wow, too bad, but not a surprise. He had cancer and had looked very bad the last few times he was on MSNBC. He was the greatest guy at MSNBC and he will be missed. Prayers for his family.

OOOOHHHH HOW SAD! :( He was a fair in reporting type of guy . Why is it the EVIL ONES linger around to make us miserable and the good ones always seem to expire...bummer! Sad indeed! Bloom was another fair and balance guy... :(

Very sad. IIRC, he had the 7pm slot on MSNBC,a few years ago, and then they moved him to 5:00. Stupid move, he was the best they had. When he came back from his treatment, he looked very good, and hadn't missed a beat. He was on recently, too. I thought he was going to be OK.

SECAUCUS, N.J. - Jerry Nachman, MSNBC TV's vice president and editor in chief, has died, the company announced Tuesday. He was 57.



Nachman died Monday night at his home in Hoboken, N.J., after battling cancer for the past year.

"Jerry was well-informed, candid, witty and charming. He was also a gifted newsman and executive, and his passing is a loss not just to NBC but to the entire profession," NBC Chairman Bob Wright said in an MSNBC statement. "Our hearts go out to his friends and family."

“Jerry was a beloved member of the MSNBC family,” said Erik Sorenson, MSNBC TV's president and general manager. “His passion for news was contagious. All of us will fondly remember Jerry’s many wonderful stories about his colorful years in the news business. We will miss him greatly.”

Nachman's career spanned radio, television and print. Prior to joining MSNBC, Nachman's career included working at WNBC-TV and WCBS-TV in New York as well as a stint as editor in chief of the New York Post.

Nachman had won numerous awards, including the Peabody Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award and an Emmy Award. He also co-wrote a short film that won the 1999 Academy Award in the student competition.

“Jerry Nachman will be remembered not only for what he brought to the news — insight, context and a relentless search for the truth — but also for what he brought to the newsroom — integrity, tenacity and a refreshing splash of humor,” said NBC News President Neal Shapiro. “He will be missed by all of us at NBC News.”

I will miss him, too. Whenever I had pmsnbc on(with the sound off-& close caption on), I would turn up the sound just to hear what he had to say.

Last time I had seen him was a month or so ago, he was based in California reporting on the Micheal Jackson case. Which is plausible since the press release said that the MJ case was his latest assignment.

I liked him, he had pretty deep insight into every story he was assigned to or stories that were front page headlines.

David Bloom was excellent in Iraq. It was the only reason I turned over to MSNBC to watch the live coverage of the Iraq war. When he was reporting for MSNBC while Lester Holt was anchoring, that was great TV.

He had that newspaper man repetoire too. Very indepth analysis of frontpage headlines. A rare commodity of 24/7 all news channels. (FOX News included). This is the main reason why I will miss him.
