Third posting and still good.

Nor can illegal immigration be looked at in a vacuum; certainly not in an age of growing ethnic chauvinism that sees unassimilated and often exploited workers in the shadows as an oppressed constituency needing group, rather than individual, representation.

Ahem. Interestingly polite terminology for [Hispanic] racism. Looks like a good term to keep using too.

Why would our president sell out to a loud crowd of complainers that refuse to make Mexico fix its own problems and not try to make things worse in the US.

Now every other group needs to be addressed as to equitable gifts from the govt for them too. Rather than just hand out goodies to nonassimilating Mexicans, why not enforce the existing laws?

Hanson has this picture perfectly understood. President Bush has it perfectly wrong.

Not a good situation when the economic largesse of the country is at stake in an era the administration has done no fiscal control.

I agree with you. I find this whole proposal of Bush's very disturbing. Instead of enforcing the immigration laws of this country, Bush proposes to reward illegality and exasperate the problem by at the least encouraging more illegals to come here and allowing Mexico to push their problems off on us. But most importantly Bush is, by this policy, systematically suppressing the wages of all American blue collar workers. Such a refusal to enforce the immigration policy is costing the American taxpayers FORTY BILLION DOLLARS a year! And until the immigration laws are enforced and the borders are secured there is no "war on terrorism", there is no "war on drugs" and there definitely is no "homeland security!" Point, Game, Set, Match!
