Could it be that Kerry won because the popular EMK came into IA to campaign for him? People in IA probably still regret that they had to "keep" Carter in 1980 when their liberal hearts were probably more disposed toward the saintly EMK.

Hear, hear. Gephardt seemed the only candidate who could fire up people with a job that doesn't involve lattes, sleeping behind a desk or running a cash register with "electronica" blaring in the background.

Dean, and AFSCME won a partial victory. They just handed the Sweeney a black eye.

Edwards is a surprise, though. I read the NY Times article, which indicated something was going on. What's your idea on Edwards finishing second?

I think we should let up on Dean next week. If we all keep piling on, his supporters won't stay with him. I want him to stay in the fray for another couple of weks.

On the plus side, this tells me that Soros's money doesn't mean squat.

I am praying for Edwards to come down with a sudden case of alopecia.

Ya, Clark was a big loser, but he was never really in the running anyway. I don't care what the polls suggested. The press would have eaten him alive if he really gained traction.

Competitive primaries can be crab-like advances. Let's all hope Dean advances again, although more slowly, so slowly Ralph is egged along again, and that Dean recovers momentum after an expensive humiliating detour, only to implode later (watch out for a Torricelli switchout then).

The last two sitting Senators were Kennedy and Harding.

You seem to lack much interest in Gephardt. That is very provincial of you.

WAAAAAY back before terrorism, back in 1988 or so, Dick Gephardt came to Rochester to campaign for Louis Slaughter.

I and 3 other people dressed up as cartoonish jail convicts to protest her pushing for convict rights (that's right, I was Freeping 10 years before Freeping had been invented).

We were able to get within 15 feet of both candidates without Secret Service (or even local police) interference with costumes that could have easily concealed weapons, and without being searched.

Now, it seems a little scary we could do that. But then it seemed perfectly normal.

Apparently it was JFK.

No one has come up with an example of a sitting Senator defeating an incumbent President though.

Although, every first that has ever happened was something that had never happened before...

Dean has money to run until the multi-state in February. If he wins or comes in 2nd in NH, he can go to the multi-state and focus on the libs, use motor voter, mobilize his base, etc. He's not toast, but he's getting warmer.

The best case scenario is for him to stay around, attack the others, siphon off money, and most of all, energize his base. Once he's knocked out, they'll DEMAND that Howard or Nader get the Green Party machine revved up. Then we have the best of all worlds:

If Kerry is top of the ticket, forget about it. No Mass. lib is going to carry anything outside of New England. Also, his wife is a complete nut and that will not work anywhere in the midwest or the south.

If Edwards is the top of the ticket, he doesn't win the South against W. He's a trial lawyer, and everyone hates lawyers (except other lawyers, of course).

If Dean hangs on, then he's completely beaten down by the end and Bush crushes him. Also, his wife is a howler and most people don't like doctors.

Clark is nuts and has no chance. His Q factor is very low, creepy looking on TV. Face is narrow, shoulders always hunched, fired as SAUCER. He's a mess.

Presidential elections are about how comfortable are with the candidate.

I've read some pretty strange stuff regarding Hillary and I think we are just getting too out of the box on this. I love the fact that the RATS are tearing their chances at a White House win apart, and exposing their socialist agenda to the American People but this Hillary thing is not going to happen. Inky and Sucky (the Incubus and the Succubus) intend to be King makers until they can try to put lipstick on ole Sucky and parade her infront of decent people for a vote (put some lipstick on that pig). They have a 5 to 10% fraud in their back pocket. No way they can do that and win in this election. Not with that b!tch on the ticket in the front runner position. People either love her or they hate her. That ain't good! She actually eradicated the middle just by being her. That's good! With no middle, she hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell. The polical theater that is to come is "special". The RATS are destroying themselves as we speak.

Well, who was the last Senator to win the presidency?

John F. Kennedy in 1960, although his win was somewhat dubious due to ballot stuffing in states like Illinois.
